About Maritza
I am a results coach and have years of experience working with people from all walks of life. I also present and produce live weekly radio shows aimed at inspiring people. For 2 years I presented “Make It Happen” on Sunny Govan Radio across Glasgow and then went on to do guest slots on Westside Radio, London. I currently present on 3TFM Radio every Tuesday, live, and also do shows for UCA Radio (University of West Scotland).
From an early age I wanted to work in the media which is an incredibly competitive industry. Hypnotist Paul McKenna had his own TV show “The Hypnotic World of Paul McKenna.” I was fascinated by the show and really wanted to see behind the scenes so I wrote to Paul, and was invited to meet with him and watch the show being broadcast. Having already read his book I was becoming increasingly interested in the personal development side of his work. Six months later I was working at The London Studios as a runner on some of the biggest shows on TV, everything from “Surprise Surprise” to “Have I got News For You”! Following that I worked at MTV as an intern and then Scottish television as a researcher.
After the STV contract ended I decided to move back to London although I didn't have a new contract lined up. I found work with a market research company paying the minimum wage. I was sharing a flat with 6 people and feeling unhappy, depressed, overwhelmed and unsure of what to do. One of my flatmate's at that time told me about a Tony Robbins’ seminar and said I should go. The only problem was that the weekend seminar cost hundreds of pounds and just going for the first evening cost £90.00, money that I just didn't have. I made one of the hardest decisions at that time to borrow the £90.00. I just knew I could benefit from being at the event.
That evening changed the course of my life and I knew I wanted to be a coach. I learned skills and strategies that I still use today. However, shortly after the seminar the owner of the house I was staying in notified me that it was being repossessed in 2 hours. I was in debt, had no money for a deposit and nowhere to stay. I then made what I knew was the right decision, to move back to Scotland, get out of debt and train to be a coach.
I trained with the Coaching Academy, Newcastle College and Dr Topher Morrison and qualified as a personal and business coach and as a Master Practitioner in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming).
I really wanted to bring together my interest in coaching and the media and created a new format for a radio show which could inspire people. At that time there was no radio show like that in the UK. I gave myself a target of one year to get the show. Exactly 1 year on I was live on air on Sunny Govan Radio across Glasgow presenting “Make It Happen”. I interviewed Sir Chris Hoy, Duncan Bannatyne, Ross King to name but a few, as well as community groups and people with inspirational stories.
